NEW SECTION added to Chapter 3-17
A petition for the removal of an elected official or an individual appointed to fill a vacant office in this state, and the election of a successor, must be signed by fifteen percent of the registered voters of the jurisdiction in which the voters who elected the official are located, based upon the total number of registered voters at the last preceding general election. A signature on the petition is not valid if signed more than sixty days before the petition is filed with the secretary of state pursuant to section of this Act. This section does not apply to officers subject to impeachment pursuant to S.D. Const., Art. XVI, § 3. 12
